This is great piece of work, thank you for that!fideliohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01799160639541471638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9109220738397250255.post-67614402190943741672015-06-05T13:50:42.232-07:002015-06-05T13:50:42.232-07:00Wow, thanks so much, Shaun! Once I realized all the symbols Weiner was using, I felt it was my duty to do a closer read. He was a poetry major in college, after all. This guy lives for symbolism. Thanks again!Laura Carneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02379120283873695437noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9109220738397250255.post-6915567835929301822015-06-02T22:30:24.128-07:002015-06-02T22:30:24.128-07:00This is by far one of the best things I've rea...This is by far one of the best things I've read about Mad Men. I've been telling people since Season 6 that the show - besides the obvious advertisement and sexism in the work place - is also a grand allegory about yoga, tarot and basically it seems every mystical branch they can jam in it. Thanks for taking all the pictures. I didn't realized how many red and white outfits were worn since the beginning of Season 7.

You put a lot of work into this post. So much stuff I missed. I can't think of another show as richly nuanced as this. Matt Weiner and his writers really hit the ball out of the park. I tell people it's as if Stanley Kubrick made a TV series. Can you imagine if this TV show came out years ago before the internet? There's so much happening. I see certain things and then I go online and someone else has spotted some puzzle piece form Season 2 that pops up again in Season 6. It's like this show is a web and the creators and viewers are one.

I was wondering what that Native American necklace that woman at the retreat was wearing. Thanks for the clarification. Again, wonderful, top-notch post. The great thing about the show and the wonderful ending is we have a great TV show to watch all over again in the near future.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10041133684850905404noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9109220738397250255.post-8267322138305579402015-05-28T11:17:31.803-07:002015-05-28T11:17:31.803-07:00I love the notion of the horseshoe—it's symbol...I love the notion of the horseshoe—it's symbolism, it's life philosophy—defining the show, and especially Don. And it's why, despite the media saying Matthew Weiner has come out and revealed the meaning of the ending (to me it was more of an allusion and not a definitive explanation), I think Peggy was the one who worked on that Coke commercial.

When Don asks her in "Forecast" what she wants to do, she says "Create a catchphrase," and "create something lasting." That's most certainly what the Coke jingle is. And while it's possible that Don conceptualized the commercial, I like to think that she was integral to its completion. That would make the season a really nice horseshoe, going back to where it began: with Don speaking through someone else (as he did with Freddie), and with "Om."Stevenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16580290486495212543noreply@blogger.com
